00 — Who I am

Freelance graphic and motion designer, Lyon & Los Angeles.

My name is Charles Lecoanet. Since 2003 I have been designing brands and setting them in motion. Sixteen years in the United States — fourteen in Los Angeles, two in Washington, D.C. — making on-air graphics and commercials for NBC Universal, FX Networks and Spike TV, then, since 2013, a freelance graphic and motion design practice based near Lyon, France.

I work across five connected fields: logo and brand guideline design, food packaging and print, 2D and 3D motion design for broadcast and web, WordPress website design, and bringing generative AI tools into the production workflow. The same eye draws a logotype and tunes an animation curve — that is what makes a brand hold up, still or moving.

01 — Services

Five tracks,
one edit.

As a freelance graphic and motion designer based in Lyon and Los Angeles, I work with brands, agencies and independents in France and abroad across five complementary areas: motion design, brand identity, packaging, website design and generative AI. Every project is built to combine visual impact and effectiveness, from storyboard to launch.

01/I

Motion Design

2D/3D animation for television, web and signage: channel branding, commercials, title sequences and explainer videos, from a storyboard of yours or mine. Experience built with US broadcasters (NBC Universal, FX Networks), then with independent brands in France.

02/II

Brand Identity

From business cards to complete brand guidelines: logo, typography, colours and applications. A strong, consistent identity, built with you to reflect your positioning and speak to your customers.

03/III

Packaging & Print

Packaging, flyers, print ads: a sales tool that serves the brand, not just a wrapper. Graphic design built for production: pouches, bottles, boxes, leaflets and printed materials.

04/IV

Web Design

WordPress websites, showcase or e-commerce, designed in partnership with a developer for the technical side (SEO, maintenance, custom features). Sites that launch quickly and are easy to grow.

05/V

Generative AI for your creativity

Exploring and integrating generative AI tools (including Claude) into the production workflow: fast ideation, visual prototyping, creative assistance. An ongoing area of training, put into practice on this very website.

02 — Brand Identity

From logo to screen.

Logos and brand guidelines created for sports clubs, startups, nutrition brands, medical companies and a theatre studio, right through to the websites that extend them. Each project shows the final logo and its applications: typography, colour palette and usage rules.

03 — Packaging & Print

Product work.

Packaging and printed materials for food, sports nutrition and spirits: pouches, bottles, cartons, leaflets and sponsorship kits. Production-ready files, from die lines to final proof.

04 — Motion Design

Selected shots.

A selection of 2D and 3D animation work, from storyboard to final delivery: on-air branding, title sequences, commercials and explainer videos. Built in After Effects, first for US television, then for brands in France.

05 — Method

Four steps, no surprises.

01The brief

We talk through your project, what it has to achieve, and your budget and schedule. I come back with a written quote and a delivery date.

02Research

Design directions, moodboard, storyboard depending on the project. You see several routes before one is developed — the choice happens early, not at the end.

03Production

The work is made in Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects or Cinema 4D. You follow along and comment on intermediate versions.

04Delivery

You leave with the source files, the agreed variations and, for an identity, the usage rules. Everything you need to be self-sufficient afterwards.

06 — Frequently asked questions

What people ask me most.

How much does a logo or a brand identity cost?

It depends on the scope: a logotype alone, a logo with its brand guidelines, or a full identity applied to print, web and signage. I work from a written quote, prepared after a first conversation that commits you to nothing.

How long does an animation take?

It depends on the length, the number of shots, and whether a storyboard already exists. A logo animation takes a few days; a full channel package takes several weeks. The schedule is agreed with you when the quote is signed.

Do you work remotely?

Yes, and I have for a long time. I spent sixteen years working for studios and networks in the United States, and I now work with both French- and English-speaking clients. Video calls, file sharing, rounds of revisions — the process is well established.

Do you work outside Lyon?

Yes. I am based near Lyon and work across France and internationally. I am bilingual in French and English and hold dual French and American citizenship, which makes projects with US teams straightforward.

Can you build the website as well?

Yes, on WordPress, whether a showcase site or e-commerce. I handle the design and work with a developer for the technical side: SEO, maintenance and custom features.

Do you use artificial intelligence?

Yes, as one tool among others: ideation, prototyping, exploring directions. Logos, packaging and animations are drawn in Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Cinema 4D. Where an image on this site is AI-generated, the viewer says so.

From Los Angeles
to France.

A graphic and motion designer since 2003, I design brands and set them in motion, from a logo to a full broadcast package. Sixteen years in the United States — fourteen in Los Angeles, two in Washington, D.C. — before returning to France in 2013. I earned a certificate in Computer Graphics and Graphic Design at UCLA Extension, and taught myself motion design (After Effects).
